Basic Baby Hat

Winter is really hitting us hard in Maine so to get my mind off the negative degree weather I started making baby stuff for my sister. Her baby is due in June, and while I am making other things from a cute pattern book I made a new pattern. Now I want to share it with all of you.

Basic Baby Hat

This is a crochet pattern made with a sport weight baby yarn and a size H hook. It is stretchy, and should fit 3 to 6 months.

It is worked in two parts without breaking off the yarn.

Gauge: 1 inch = 4 sc and 4 rows.

Stitches used:

Sc (single crochet)

Dc (double crochet)

Ch (chain)

Dec (Decreasedecreases are always worked over 2 stitches

Sl st (slip Stitch

Brim of Hat

ch 5

sc in 1st ch from hook, sc across (4 sc)

ch1 turn

work sc till it measures about 14 in

connect together with a slip stitch

 

Body of Hat

don’t cut the yarn Ch 2

work 58 dc on side of brim. 

sl st to beginning, ch 2 turn 

dc across,sl sl to first dc, ch2 turn

(decrease rows begin)

*dc 6, dec (over next two stitches)* 6 times, dc 6, dec (over next two stitches) twice, sl sl to first dc, ch 2 turn

dc across, sl sl to first dc, ch 2 turn

*dc5 dec* to end, sl sl to first dc, ch 2 turn

*dc 4 dec* to end, sl sl to first dc, ch 2  turn

*dc 3 dec* to end, sl sl to first dc, ch 2 turn

*dc 2, dec* to end, sl sl to first dc, ch 2 turn

*dc 1 dec* to end, sl sl to first dc, ch 2 turn

*dec* to end, sl sl to first dc, ch 1 turn

using sc dec to end 

Tie off and weave in ends.

Attach a Pompom if desired.

  1. The picture did not load up with the pattern and it read “Internal Error” so I didn’t use this pattern. I had like it so much.
